Sport Climbing
Typical of France, the area boasts a wealth of excellent sport climbing venues. There are many routes of all grades, all perfectly bolted and equipped with lower offs. Calames, a limestone venue 4km from your accommodation, has over 250 routes varying between F3c and F8c as well as multipitch routes up to 400m. Due to its elevated position, the views are amazing. One glance behind you while up a route will take your breath away.
A few miles further is the Granite D'Auzat, a great venue with hundreds of bolted routes on fantastic granite rock. Other sport climbing venues include Sinsat, Roquefixade, Genat and many more…
Traditional Climbing
For those preferring the challenge of traditional routes, the area provides unlimited opportunities. The most famous venue is surely the spectacular Dent D’Orlu. Situated in glorious scenery, the Dent D’Orlu offers traditional routes between 30m and 1000m long on superb granite. Grades vary from easy F4a routes to serious looking F7c traditional style projects. It must be seen to be believed, so rack up, rope up, and enjoy.
Bouldering
For bouldering addicts, the area offers some of the best venues in France. Grades are widespread, varying between Font 2a and Font 8a and beyond. Competitions and events are often held at the superb granite boulders of Orlu and the Chaos of Targassonne. The Blocs of Laramade, less than a twenty minute drive from the house has a superb range of problems with four different circuits of difficulty. Or if you prefer limestone, then the steep rock of Arabaux may be more ideal. Bring plenty of chalk and gusto!
Aid Climbing
If Aid climbing is your game, then look no further. The impressive blank walls of Sinsat are an aid climber’s paradise with grades from A0e - A5, and bucket loads of exposure! Or if you fancy just walking or scrambling, don’t fear, because Ariège is home to some of the most spectacular scenery in Europe. |
